"Working in a boarding environment allows me to build quality relationships with the students"

Hi Daz! Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hello, I'm originally from South Africa but have lived in Europe for the last twenty years. I enjoy travelling, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. I recently sailed around the world and am now working back in the mountains that I love almost as much as I love the oceans.

How come you became a Maths teacher?

At university, I studied Economics and Mathematics and I have always enjoyed teaching so it was a logical progression for me to teach Maths.

Can you give us your best Maths study advice?

Understanding concepts is the most important thing in Mathematics. Once you understand the concept, it makes applying your knowledge to different types of questions much easier. Then you need to practise, practise and practise some more.

What is your favourite part about working in a boarding school?

All of the extracurricular activities like skiing in the winter and climbing/hiking in the summer. Working in a boarding environment allows me to build quality relationships with the students in my care outside of the classroom.

Finally, what is your top tip about Crans-Montana?

Enjoy the spectacular scenery of wild mountains and beautiful lakes in this stunning Alpine setting. Crans-Montana is one of the most beautiful places I have seen anywhere in the world.
